Noon: Music in Khamlia and lunch

Next, the Merzouga 4x4 excursion through the Merzouga desert will head towards the small village of Khamlia, known for its vibrant Gnawa music. This musical style, originating in sub-Saharan Africa, is a blend of African, Berber and Arabic rhythms, and is central to the local culture.

In Khamlia, you will enjoy a live music session, where local musicians will immerse you in their traditional sounds, a unique experience in the heart of the desert. After the performance, you can relax and enjoy a delicious traditional Moroccan lunch, enjoying the local flavours in a picturesque setting.

Afternoon: Khemliya Mines and Lake Merzouga

After lunch, you will continue your Merzouga 4x4 excursion to the ancient mines of Khemliya, once an important centre for the extraction of salt and other minerals. Here you will learn about the mining history of the region and how local people have worked in these mines for generations.

Next, you'll head to Lake Merzouga, a small expanse of water in the middle of the desert. Although it is not always full, it is a peaceful place to enjoy the desert scenery and observe the local wildlife, such as migratory birds passing through the area.

Return to Merzouga
